(Mankato, Ks – July 9, 2015) –Jewell County Community Development (JCCDA) is proud to announce the groundbreaking of a new Dollar General Store in Mankato, Kansas. Dollar General has purchased and finalized the sale of two lots from Mankato resident, Dick Burns which are east of The Buffalo Roam along Highway 36. The City of Mankato and JCCDA worked with Dollar General representatives to make this very exciting economic growth opportunity happen in Jewell County.
“We very much value all of our current Jewell County businesses that bring so much to our economy. However, we also know that surrounding counties have a larger pull factor than Jewell County does, which means that many residents are shopping out of County for goods and services. Our hope in securing Dollar General is that we will encourage more out-of-County residents to come and County residents to stay in Jewell County to shop not only Dollar General, but all of our great stores,” stated Jenny Russell, JCCDA Coordinator. Jewell County Community Development is also concerned with the quality of life for Jewell County residents and increased conveniences are part of this equation. Lastly, the addition of Dollar General to Mankato will create more available jobs to a diverse group of people.
